The Cartoonistby Betsy Byars |

Threatened with the loss of his private place in the attic, Alfie determines to keep it no matter what.
When I was in third grade, I sat beside a boy who drew pictures. While the rest of us were doing arithmetic, he drew. While we did English, he drew. We did spelling, he drew. I don't recall him going on to fourth grade with the rest of us, but I don't think it mattered as long as he could draw. Alfie in this book, is like that boy. Alfie wants to be a cartoonist and all he likes to do is draw. That's why the attic is so special to him, and why he could never give it up.
