Kate begins an exchange on a computer with someone named BB-9 claiming to be from outer space and on his way to earth.
I had just gotten my first computer and was thinking of all the possibilities, and one of the most interesting ones was someone contacting me from outer space. My computer was very primitive, so I asked my son if he could possibly do some computer graphics for the book. I told him what I wanted, and within a couple of weeks they came in the mail. I hadn't written a word. It was the first time, the illustrations came before the text. Having my son for an illustrator also gave me the perfect answer when I'm asked, "Who's your favorite illustrator? Guy Byars."
