My Dog, My Hero

Eight dogs have been nominated for the Hero of the Year Medal. Each deserves to win, but only one can.

I had a lot of fun writing this book, because I wrote it with two of my daughters, Laurie Myers and Betsy Duffey. We all love dogs, and at first we would phone each other and yell, “I bid to do Dopey.” “I’m going to do Little Bit!” Or Bear, or Smiley, or Munchkin, or Old Dog, or Buster, or Blue, until all the dogs were taken. The only time we quarreled was over which dog would win the medal. By the time we had to decide, we had come to love our make-believe dogs and wanted them to win. A lot!!! Some people have asked if any of the dogs were based on our dogs. My daughter said it best. “If they’d been our dogs, we’d have to call it MY DOG, MY COWARD.”
