The Winged Colt Of Casa Miaby Betsy Byars |

Charles comes to stay with his Uncle Coot in Texas just before Uncle Coot's mare has a colt with wings.
I saw an animated movie when I was a girl, and in this movie horses with white wings soared and wheeled around the sky. It was the most beautiful thing I'd seen as a kid, and I'm sure this affected my writing this book. My husband's hobby is gliding, and that summer we had been to a gliding contest in Marfa, Texas. My husband didn't always make it back to the airport, and so I had to hook up the trailer and go out into the country and find him. I saw a lot of Texas, and I realized that if I ever wanted to write a book about a horse with wings, it would have to take place somewhere like this-a place where a boy and a winged colt could have some adventures without any publicity at all.
